Morocco winner of the 2018 African Nations Championship
Morocco’s national football team won the 5th African Nations Championship (CHAN) on Sunday, February 4, 2018 with a 4-0 victory over Nigeria. They become the first host nation to claim the African Nations Championship (CHAN) title.
The star of the night was Zakaria Hadraf, the right winger who swept Morocco into the lead with the last kick of a dominant first half. Morocco won the game with three goals in 12 minutes, including another from Hadraf. The fourth goal came from Ayoub El Kaabi, best player of the tournament, his ninth goal of a record-breaking tournament.
Nigeria, who was reduced to 10 men in the 47th minute when Moses Eneji received a second yellow, capitulated after the break, as they struggled to cope with the conditions, the man deficit and Morocco’s attacking firepower.
You may never have heard of CHAN and you are unlikely to have ever seen any of these players play. This is the younger brother of CAN, the Africa Cup of Nations. Here, only players who play club football in their home country can be picked. CHAN gives football fans access to more local heroes.
Morocco closes the 2018 African Nations Championship with joy. Candidate for the organization of the 2026 World Cup, the kingdom of the Shereefian seeks nothing better.
