Burkina Faso: project to build an eco-friendly city on behalf of Princess Yennenga
Located at 15 km from Ouagadougou, will take life Yennenga, a new city which promises to be a model of ecology and to honor the local culture.
Five architectural firms are responsible for the creation of Yennenga. This city symbolizes, from above, the eye of Yenenga, the mythical princess and founding mother of one of the main peoples of Burkina Faso. Architects intend to highlight the aspects of a sustainable city, aspects of the local culture, and the climate.
An ecological city
The city plans to establish architectural needs much more autonomous in energy expenditure, by with realistic innovations. It will overcome the climatic constraints of the region. To the north, the particular arrangement of the buildings will make it possible to break dry and dusty winds, while the buildings in the southern part will let the damp, monsoon winds of the monsoon sweep away. Dew fillets will be installed to capture water, a scarce and valuable resource in this region.
What will be built: a functional city center with hospitals, administrative and commercial buildings (hotels, offices, etc.) where the plots of houses will be grafted. Yennenga will be spread over 700 hectares and will accommodate 80,000 people.
