Yaye Souadou Fall: transforming used tires into flooring
Senegal, like several African countries, faces a real problem of waste treatment. Old used tires are often burned to extract the iron they contain. To counter this situation, Yaye Souadou Fall, then a business school student at ISM (Dakar) decides with six of her classmates to take up the challenge of recycling the thousands of tires left in the streets of Dakar.
Tire processing
They will grind the tires using a meat chopper, and create a new material at high potential that will enable them to manufacture floor tiles. These removable, non-slip and waterproof tiles are perfect for terraces, basketball courts and playgrounds.
The birth of E-Cover
This is how E-Cover, a start-up that revalorizes waste, is born thanks to the recycling and industrial transformation of used tires, which are used for the production of local products. These products include: shoe soles, tiles for playgrounds, courtyards and terraces, and floor coverings for swimming pools, etc.
After a failed attempt at crowdfunding, Yaye and his team manage to unite a community that opens them the door to obtaining a financing of $ 15000 US Dollars, at the Anzisha Prize. E-cover has now opened its first factory in a disadvantaged area of the Dakar.
