Benin seen from the sky with Egloye
Mawunu Feliho, also known as Egloye, a young Beninese of 23 years, decided to make the world discover Benin, from the eye of a drone. His goal is to show a better face of his country.
Negative stereotypes about Africa, and more precisely about Benin (voodoo …), are heard all over the globe. In order to combat these stereotypes, Mawunu, a young Beninese, vlogger, artistic director at Irawo Talents, and holder of a bachelor’s degree in economics and management, embarked on the rediscovery of his country using a drone. His images and videos give a different look on this beautiful country which is Benin.
“Showing a better image of Benin”
Mawunu discovered how much he loved Benin far from home, in Europe. It all begun in April 2016, when he discovered his interest for drones. He formed on the job, and made his first video shortly afterwards, which showed the place of the Red Star of Cotonou. He created a series of short videos (project “Fly shit only” ) that show several cities of Benin. Launched in September 2016, his project already counts 2 seasons, with 19 episodes of 2 minutes.
The first season focuses on the economic capital of Benin, Cotonou, and its various neighborhoods, some of which are renamed: Red Star, CTN Beachs, Martyrs Square, Marina Boulevard, Gbèwa à Todote, Calavi, Les Egunguns, Akpakpa, Ballers Corner.
The second season focuses on other cities in Benin, namely Porto-Novo, Glazoué, Abomey, Savè, Grand-Popo, Tchaourou, Ouidah, Dassa-Zoumè and Parakou.
Why Fly Shit Only (FSO) ?
- “To show that the true wealth of Benin is there, placed on the ground, each of us being part of the picture.”
- For those who are curious to know Benin
- For those abroad who are dying to return home
What’s next for this web series of Egloye?
He would like to fly over more African capitals. For the time being, he is focused on the cities of Benin, and has also filmed two cities in West Africa (Assinie, seaside town of Côte d’Ivoire, and Lomé in Togo).
“Fly over more African capitals”
The tourist potential of Benin is quite unknown, but yet immensely rich. Thanks to young people like Mawunu, this potential can now be shown to the whole world! A big big up to it!
