The Alliance for Affordable Internet, published its 2017 report on Internet accessibility in the world.
The level of accessibility is assessed according to 3 main factors:
- The ICT infrastructure deployed
- The policy framework in place to support the expansion of ICTs
- The current rate of adoption of broadband
Here is the ranking of African countries best positioned:
- Mauritius (ranked 8th worldwide)
- Morocco (11th worldwide)
- Nigeria (13th in the world)
- Botswana (15th worldwide)
- Côte d’Ivoire (18th in the world)
- Rwanda (21st worldwide)
- South Africa (22nd in the world)
- Ghana (26th in the world)
- Benin (29th in the world)
- Kenya (30th in the world)
Which countries have distinguished themselves for this year?
Botswana is moving from 23rd place (2016) to 15th place in 2017, through the improvement and simplification of its multi-service licensing regime, and the launch of publicWi-Fi.
Benin leaves the 38th place of 2016 to the 29th in 2017, thanks to the improvement of its telecom environment.
A positive balance for Africa, as between 2013 and 2015 there has been a big improvement in the reduction of the average price of gigabytes in% of GNI per capita. Indeed, it has decreased from 36.91% in 2013 to 17.49% in 2015.
