The best wine in the world is not French but South African
Last Monday, a South African white chenin of 2013 was voted best wine of the year 2015 at the end of the world contest of Brussels which took place at the beginning of May.
Originating from the Kleine Zalze family reserve (in the Stellenbosch region) on the outskirts of the Cape, this wine has been selected from among 8000 wines from 45 countries.
The reward of Kleine Zalze surprised in South Africa. His consecration puts a spotlight on the wines of South Africa. The country has the world’s eighth-largest vineyard, accounting for 4.2% of global production in 2014, according to the Wines of South Africa (WOSA) professional organization.
The main customers abroad are by far the United Kingdom and Germany, followed by Russia, Sweden, France and the Netherlands.
